About Changan
Changan is one of China's oldest industrial conglomerates: its roots go back to the Shanghai Arsenal Bureau founded by Li Hongzhang in 1862. In 1937, when production was relocated from Nanjing to Chongqing, it became Arsenal No. 21, and in 1959, under the name Chongqing Changan Arsenal, it produced the Changjiang Type 46 — the first series-production car in China. The company's headquarters remain in Chongqing to this day. In July 2025, China Changan Automobile Group received the status of a central state-owned enterprise under SASAC supervision (becoming the 100th on the list), with registered capital of 20 billion yuan.
In the Russian market Changan ranked 5th in 2024 (106,100 cars, 6.75% of the market) and in 2025 held a top-5 spot with 4.6% of the monetary market size. The bulk of sales are CS35 Plus, CS55 Plus (sold locally as Uni-S) and Uni-T. CS35 was assembled in Lipetsk from 2016; in 2025 a resumption and expansion of Russian production was discussed. The brand bets on technology: it actively promotes autonomous driving systems and electrification through its Deepal and Avatr sub-brands.
